NEW ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM TO COST €83m

Construction of a new archaeological museum in Nicosia will begin in May 2021 and cost €83 m plus VAT. Tenders for the project – that will include exhibition and storage space, workshops, a restaurant, a cafeteria, a museum ship and underground parking for 100 cars will be invited in 2020.
Contracts have already been signed with the architect to prepare the detailed studies and construction plans as well as the documents for the tender. The contract also covers supervision of construction. The architect’s fee was set at 9.5% of the construction cost, plus VAT.
The designs are by architect Theoni Xanthi who won first prize in the international competition.

Under the time plan, construction is expected to take two and half years, with the museum to be completed by the end of 2022.
