SECURITY & MEASURES AGAINST CAR THEFT

From Cyprus Police

04/09/2019 09:32:00

Car theft incidents occur regularly, often due to the unsafe guarding of the vehicle or its keys.

For the purpose of preventing such cases of theft and in addition to the efforts made by the Police to prevent them, the
public is urged to be very careful and to take further measures to more effectively protect their property.

Responsible vehicle drivers should take seriously the fact that skeptics are in danger and, therefore, even in the
event of a short departure from our vehicle, we must take all measures that would prevent it from being stolen.

Indicatively, the following is a series of preventive measures that citizens are urged to take.

1. We do not leave our car in operation and never leave the keys in the starter or inside the car. Even if we are going to
be missing even for a very short time for some visit to a shop, office or other place, we lock our car and have the keys
in our possession.

2. We always lock the doors and raise the windows completely, even if our car is parked in front of your home or
anywhere we consider safe.

3. We do not leave our car keys exposed at any prominent places or places that any third party can access in our home,
workplace, or anywhere else we visit.

4. We take care to keep our car keys safe, especially when we are in busy areas such as shops, restaurants, etc.,
where there is an increased chance of being stolen.

5. We always park our car in places where there is sufficient street lighting and preferably in supervised car parks.
Dark or secluded spots make it easier for thieves to work.

6. Finally, it is recommended to install an anti-theft alarm system in our car.

In general, the public is urged to be vigilant and cooperate closely with the Police and if they detect anything
suspicious, such as persons or vehicles suspiciously moving, or know anything about such theft, immediately inform
the local Police Station or to contact the Citizens' Contact Line at 1460, as this can help identify suspects, detect theft
and prevent future incidents.
