POLICE ACTIONS TO PREVENT DEADLY & SERIOUS TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS

Police have been active on a nationwide basis with coordinated actions and operations over the last 24 hours to prevent
serious and fatal traffic accidents.

A total of 276 speed limit violations were found during the Speed ​​Control Campaign, which began on Monday, 
August 12, 2019 and will conclude on Sunday, August 25, 201, with a corresponding number of complaints.

During the checks, more than 500 complaints were made about various other traffic violations, such as the use of a 
mobile phone while driving, driving without a seat belt or a protective helmet for motorcyclists, as well as vehicle and 
driver document violations. 


It is characteristic that, during a coordinated operation of the Traffic Police Department in the city and province of 
Limassol, it was found that 42 persons were driving their vehicles without a certificate of suitability for their vehicle.

A total of 169 violations of the speed limit on Limassol roads were found by members of the Traffic Police 
Headquarters, while 25 drivers were identified as using a mobile phone while driving and 78 drivers and passengers 
were identified as not wearing seat belts. It was also found that 130 people were driving their vehicle without a 
registration certificate for the vehicle. A total of 120 complaints and 23 out-of-court warnings were made for various
 other traffic offenses.

Also characteristic was yesterday's incident in the city of Paphos, namely on Republic Avenue, where a 17-year-old
was found by members of the Paphos Road to drive a car without a driver's license and without a third party liability 
insurance certificate.

The passenger in the car was the 72-year-old vehicle owner, who illegally allowed the 17-year-old to drive the car.

Both the young man and the 72-year-old were indicted in writing for the traffic offenses in question, to be summoned 
to the Court to hear the case.

It is noteworthy that, during the last 24 hours, members of the Police were called and provided roadside assistance 
to a total of 16 vehicle drivers.

The coordinated actions of the Police continue in the context of efforts to prevent serious and fatal traffic accidents 
and to consolidate good road awareness.
