Customs are introducing new procedures in a move to stamp out tampering with the odometer of imported second hand cars, the Cyprus Consumers Association said on Monday.
Customs are introducing new procedures in a move to stamp out tampering with the odometer of imported second hand cars, the Cyprus Consumers Association said on Monday.
It said that while clearing a car for import, Customs will record the mileage of a second hand vehicle and make this information available to the Road Transport Department.
The Cyprus Consumers Association said it had been informed of the incoming changes in a letter from the Customs Department dated August 7 saying that “very soon” it will make it compulsory for the exact mileage on a vehicle be recorded when it is being cleared through customs.
This data will be made available to the Road Transport Department when the car is registered.
If the Road Transport Department finds that the odometer has been tampered with the vehicle will not be registered and the owner will be reported to the authorities.
