Consumers should not accept additional charges for using credit or debit cards when paying for goods and services, the consumer association cautioned on Monday.
They should only pay the price stated on the product or invoice.
“Charges are small, but illegal, as long as there is no clear indication of this additional charge,” the statement by the association said.
“If the seller decides to impose an additional charge due to a card payment, he/she must necessarily have displayed at a prominent point in the shop that the buyer will be charged an additional amount and the exact amount when payment is made using a credit or debit card must be stated.”
In case there is no clear indication of the additional charge this should be reported to the consumer association.
