SEA & SWIMMING POOL RISKS - PROTECTION OF CHILDREN

From Cyprus Police:

Risks in the sea as well as in swimming pools are lurking and bathers, as well as parents, must take all necessary measures to protect children.

You have to keep in mind the following to have fun on the beach ;

• Use protected beaches with lifeguards, especially when there are young children.
• Even if someone is a swimmer, always be accompanied by another person when he goes swimming.
• Stay within bathing areas as defined.
• Avoid using specified vessel channels.
• Avoid swimming after eating or drinking alcohol.
• Be especially careful when diving and avoid diving with the head, as there is a risk of serious injury.
• When you have children with you, never leave them unattended. In the case of small children, close and continuous monitoring is required and entry to the sea or pool should only be permitted with adult escorts.
 Never leave your children unattended in or near the water.
 Do not consider bracelets, inflatable coils and other devices to replace your obligation to supervise your children.
 Teach your children that they must never swim on their own.
 Play with your children in shallow water until they become familiar with water.
Be aware that it takes not much time, but only a few minutes for a child to drown.

Finally, the Port and Maritime Police are ready to provide every possible help to anyone who needs it.
