From Cyprus Police:

Increased traffic on streets, shops and shopping centers always gives the opportunity to thieves to act. In such
places, there is an increased risk that our unsuspecting fellow citizens will be targeted by thieves stumbling to steal
property such as wallet or purse.

For the sake of preventing such phenomena, and in addition to the efforts made by the Police to prevent such theft, a
series of precautionary measures are required to encourage citizens to take effective measures to protect their property.

1.  When we walk or are in busy streets or public places, we have money, bank credit cards and mobile phones in our
front pockets of clothing.

2. When we carry a bag, do not put all the money, bank credit cards and documents like our passport and ID card in
the bag unless absolutely necessary, since our bag is a target of stealth.

3.  Our bag is preferably transported in a way so that we can have a constant eye contact with it, for example, can be
placed in our body, making it difficult for someone to pull it, removing it from our possession or opening it for to steal its
content.

4.  In cases where we visit shopping centers and shops, we are very careful and we always hold our personal items
without leaving them exposed anywhere.

5. In places where there is crowding, but also in dark and distant places, we are especially careful, since conditions
are appropriate for us to be a target for the theft of our property by laborers.

In general, the public is encouraged to be alert and to work closely with the Police and in case it detects anything that
the suspect, such as persons or vehicles that are suspected, immediately inform the local Police Station or communicate
with the Citizen's Communication Line 1460 or the emergency telephone line 112 and 199.

Finally, having always as a priority our physical integrity, security and health, we avoid any confrontation with any
suspect person who may also react aggressively against us. Discriminatory observation of suspects and immediate
notification to the Police is the safer handling of such incidents by citizens.
