Kataklysmos is coming up, offering a long weekend which is sure to see the beaches and seaside towns attract crowds as various Flood Festivals are put on in celebration of the day.
Larnaca’s celebration of Kataklysmos is perhaps the biggest with festivities lasting for six days. Until June 19, the entire Foinikoudes promenade will be decorated with stalls, games on the sand and numerous folklore performances. As per usual, the event includes a traditional bazaar along the length of the promenade, traditional demonstrations, food, drink, water-based activities and competitions, and a programme of premium cultural performances.
Several well-known singers across Cyprus and Greece will be part of the celebrations holding open-air concerts. Activities will spread beyond Foinikoudes to Europe Square and the Medieval Fort.
But Larnaca’s not the only town celebrating. The Municipality of Limassol has also planned its fair share of festivities. From Saturday to Monday a Folk Festival will be set up in the Eastern Car Parking Area of the Multifunctional Promenade Park featuring local products and traditional goods. Traditional dance performances, live music, boat shows and shadow theatre are also part of the activities.
Ayia Napa will celebrate over four days, Friday to Monday with all the usual events. Its highlight is a performance by popular Greek singer Yiannis Parios on Saturday with his orchestra. Kataklysmos festivities will also travel to Polis Chrysochou where again there will be traditional music and dance programmes and water activities for children.
