EU Settlement Scheme: applying from outside the UK
Information for applicants to the EU Settlement Scheme who are applying from abroad.
You can apply for status under the EU Settlement Scheme from outside the UK.
You should use the EU Exit: ID Document Checkapp to verify that you are entitled to apply from abroad. You can scan:
- your current passport or national identity card with a biometric chip, if you are a European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss citizen
- a UK residence card with a biometric chip, if you are not an EEA or Swiss citizen
If you are applying from overseas and cannot verify your identity document using the app, we may ask you to send your document to us by post. You should contact the EU Settlement Resolution Centre if:
- you are not able to post us your identity document
- the app does not scan the biometric chip in your UK residence card
