The Pedieos river in Nicosia (Christos Theodorides)
The dam of Ayia Marina Chrysochous overflowed early this morning, making it the fifth reservoir in Paphos filled to 100 per cent of capacity.
Ayia Marina Chrysochous has the capacity to hold 300,000 cubic metres of water. At the same time last year, the small reservoir was only 36.2 per cent full.
In the past few days, the Argaka, Mavrokolympos, Arminou and Pomos reservoirs have overflowed in Paphos.
On Wednesday torrential rains brought the amount of water in the reservoirs to 40.5 per cent of capacity but this also meant overflowing rivers caused havoc as many roads had to be closed to traffic.
The following remained closed due to flooding on Thursday morning in the Nicosia and Troodos districts:
Ayios Sozomenos – Potamia, Finopoulou (opposite the Grammar School), and Kyriakou Erythrou Stavrou, which connects Prodromos avenue to Ayios Omoloyites avenue near the post office in Strovolos.
On Thursday and Friday it will be sunny and no more rain is expected.
During the weekend, there may be a little rain, but only in some areas, and temperatures will be above average for this time of the year.
