SECURITY OVER THE HOLIDAY PERIOD

Christmas and the New Year holiday period is a prime time for burglars.   Please be alert to strange vehicles and/or people in your area - if in doubt, make a note of vehicles [make, model, reg no and time and date spotted] or ring the Police.

If you have an intruder alarm, please ensure that the batteries and SIM card are functioning and put the alarm into operation whenever you leave the premises.

Please ensure that ALL windows and doors are securely locked - even if you only leave the property for a short period of time.

Please do not advertise any absence in advance on any form of social media.   Similarly, if you see a Police spot check do not advertise this on social media, alert your friends or flash to forewarn fellow motorists.   Also, do not advertise your absence with a message on your ansamachine.

Arrange for a neighbour to remove any post/flyers from the postbox outside your house.  If possible, arrange for that neighbour to put a bag of refuse in your bin house occasionally during your absence.

Leave lights, music and/or tv on when you go out.  If you will be away, use timers to switch lights on and off at different times.

Do not leave any valuables in sight.

Hide car keys away or remove them from the property.

Lock valuables away and please do not keep large amounts of money on your property.

Please ensure any ladders and tools are locked away and inaccessible.

Do not make it easy for thieves.  Too often access is gained through an unlocked window or door, or because an intruder alarm system has not been set or is out of action for some reason.
