From the Cyprus Police:
Recently, various areas of Cyprus have seen the phenomenon of throwing fireworks without securing their permits and without following legitimate procedures. Because there is an increased risk of injury to any person or fire, the Police invite the public to comply with the relevant legislation, which provides, inter alia, the following:
Pursuant to Article 2 of the Explosive Substances Law Cap.54, the import, manufacture, sale, transfer, export, transit and use of any explosive is illegal and in accordance with Articles 2 and 4 (4) (a) to the above offenses are punished with imprisonment not exceeding 10 years or a fine not exceeding € 2,562 or both.
It is also noted that according to the Firearms and Non-Firearms Law 113 (i) / 2004, when a person is convicted under Article 4 (4) of the abovementioned Law, this conviction is an impediment to the acquisition and possession of a Firearm and a Non Firefighter and if convicted, he or she will be able to obtain a license to possess a firearm or a non-firearm after 10 years from the date of his conviction, or if he / she is a holder of a Certificate of Registration or License, they are suspended for a period of 10 years.
Therefore, the public is required to apply the provisions of the relevant legislation and to obtain a permit from the competent authority (Inspector of Explosives), which in each case appoints a person authorized to fire fireworks at a specific day, time and place .
Finally, it is stressed that, in addition to the dangers of illicit throwing of fireworks, non-compliance with the relevant Legislation is an offense and anyone found to be unaware of it will be prosecuted in accordance with the Law.
