It has been announced that Stephen Lillie CMG has been appointed British High Commissioner to the
Republic of Cyprus in succession to Matthew Kidd CMG. Mr Lillie will
take up his appointment in Spring 2018.
Mr Lillie, who was born in Yorkshire in 1966 but brought up in Nottingham, is
married to Denise Chit Lo Lillie and they have two sons. He was appointed Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in the
2017 Birthday Honours list. Mr Lillie is a Chinese speaker, having
studied the language in Hong Kong and London. He has a degree in Modern
Languages from Oxford University.
Mr Lillie has worked in the Middle East, China, India, Far East and his
last role was as Director of Asia Pacific at the Foreign and Commonwealth
Office. Mr Lillie is currently undertaking full time language training.
