THE BRIDGE OF MUSIC with Cyprus Symphony Orchestra - Tala Amphitheatre - 24 June

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra is performing two live concerts of Haydn’s tenth opera ‘L’Isola Disabitata’ (the desert island), at Pallas Theatre in Nicosia on June 23 and Tala Amphitheatre in Paphos on June 24.

What: The Bridge of Music

When: Friday, 23 June & Saturday, 24 June

Where: Pallas Theatre, Rigainis and Arsinois, Paphos Gate, Old Nicosia, Nicosia and Tala Amphitheatre, Konstantinos Leventis Park, Tala, Paphos

L’Isola Disabitata first premiered in December 1779 and is remembered today for its dramatic ‘Sturm und Drang’ overture, typical of the proto-Romantic movement, which shaped the German-speaking world of literature and music between the late 1760s and the early 1780s.

The orchestra will also perform songs by Alkis Baltas and Ali Hoca. Inspired by well-known Cypriot traditional songs, Baltas orchestrated these beautiful, genuine melodies using the rich palette of the orchestral sound colours. Hoca was inspired by the melodies, rhythms and modes of Cyprus, such as the Zeybek, Syrto, Tsiftetelli and the Mandra traditional dance.

The concert will start at 8.30pm each night and tickets for the Nicosia event cost €12 / €7 / €5 / €3. The Paphos concert is free under the auspices of Pafos2017. For more information call 22463144.
