PAFOS2017 - CALL FOR TIMBERS FOR TABLE OF UNIFICATION


On behalf of the organisation European Capital of Culture - Pafos2017, please find below information for further distribution for the Call for Timbers of the project Table of Unification.

The two artists Anthony Heywood and Uwe Derksen, makers of Tabula – Fortis in Pace, were subsequently invited to create a Tabula sculpture as part of the Official Programme of the European Capital of Culture - Pafos2017 celebrations, where the Table of Unification will be placed in the local ‘Open Khan’ as a permanent sculpture.

Specifications for the collection of timbers
 
A call for timbers from across Europe and further afield in support of the Pafos2017 Table of Unification sculpture project.
 
1. To collect one or more pieces of used timber in the place where you live or work.
 
2. Please provide the information where the timber is from and how it was used or at a minimum how and where the timber was sourced.
 
3. Include a message on paper referencing the theme “Linking Continents, Bridging Cultures” and “Table of Unification”. The message can be arrived at from observation or discussions in your neighborhood, with your students, in your teaching institutions, your arts practice etc.
 
4. Timbers should have had a life before, they must have been used. At a minimum each timber should be 1m long by 20cm wide and 5 cm thick. Timbers can be soft or hard woods.
 
5. Timbers must be in good condition, have the potential to have another life in a structural sense. Timber must therefore not have any signs of rot or be infected by wood worm or fungi.
 
6. The piece or pieces of timber should be delivered to either address:
  • European Capital of Culture Pafos2017, 55, Griva Digeni Avenue, Pafos 8049, Cyprus
  • Nicosia collection point: Home for Cooperation, 28, Markou Drakou Street, Nicosia 1102, Cyprus 
The Nicosia collection point will be available until 30 November 2015
 
7.  The last date for submission of the messages and timber is 30 June 2016.
 
8.  Contributors should include their postal address, if they wish to receive an acknowledgement from the two artists.
