WHY NOTHING CHANGES IN CYPRUS

WHY NOTHING CHANGES IN CYPRUS - KNews  Opinion 6/11

The education budget shows what happens when politicians go unchallenged on what taxpayers get for their money.

By Michalis Sophocleous

The other day, I watched Britain’s growth minister, Dan Tomlinson, give an outstanding interview on Sky News. Without warning, the journalist Ed Conway kept putting charts in front of him, on everything from public debt and social support measures to regional development. Tomlinson explained his government’s economic policy, using the figures and spelling out the thinking behind it. I may disagree with some of Labour’s policies, but those eight minutes were a tribute to democracy and accountability.

At Monday's Ecofin meeting, the Irish presidency is seeking to secure a political agreement, which is already meeting with strong opposition.  The Commission considers existing consumption taxes obsolete and invokes "support for public health and alignment of fiscal policy with current market dynamics".

THE SHIP WAS DELAYED AND PATIENTS WERE LEFT WITHOUT CONSUMABLES - Filenews 6/11 by Marilena Panayi

At the same time, pharmaceutical preparations were in short supply or their stocks in Cyprus were very few, with the result that patients were suffering or even at risk until new quantities became available.

"Unfortunately," the secretary of the Federation of Cyprus Patients' Associations, Charalambos Papadopoulos, told "F", "almost every month cases of patients arrive at OSAK who are not served as they should and do not provide the consumables they need to meet their needs and certainly, almost every week we are informed about shortages of specific medicines."
