CRIME ROUND UP

Two cars belonging to members of the same family were almost completely destroyed by a fire that was maliciously set at four o'clock in the morning.

The vehicles were parked outside the family's residence in the area of STELIOS KYRIAKIDES stadium. Members of the fire brigade rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire before it caused more damage.

The scene has been cordoned off and police will conduct examinations in broad daylight to collect evidence that could lead to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators.

In the context of investigating a case of car theft (complaint 15/7/2023 ICF Limassol) and arson (detected on 30/7/2023 in Paphos), the Police proceeded yesterday on the basis of court warrants to the arrest of three persons.

They are three men aged 37, 30 and 26 who were detained to facilitate interrogations.

Specifically, during the investigation of the arson case of the car, testimony emerged about a specific car, which was seen at the scene of the arson.

Police made a third arrest yesterday as part of the investigation into a case of illegal possession and circulation of counterfeit currency and securing goods by false representations.

This is a 20-year-old man who was arrested last night on a court warrant and taken into custody. The 20-year-old's arrest comes on top of the arrests of two other people, aged 18 and 19, made last Saturday, July 29, in the same case.

The investigation of the case began following a complaint to the Police, by the owner of a premises in Famagusta district, on July 28. According to the complainant, a group of young persons had gone to his premises on the evening of Thursday 27/07/2023. After paying the bill and leaving the premises, the complainant found that among the money given to him, nine counterfeit €10 notes were included.

The same group went again to the same premises the next night, where the owner called the Police and pointed out the two persons who paid with the counterfeit banknotes, while one of them tried again to pay with a counterfeit banknote, before the arrival of the Police.

Subsequently, in a search of the residence of the two suspects, aged 18 and 19, a counterfeit €10 note was found, which was received as evidence.

During the investigation of the case, testimony was also obtained against the 20-year-old, on the basis of which a court warrant was issued for his arrest. The 20-year-old was located last night and arrested under a court warrant.

The first two arrested were brought yesterday before the Famagusta District Court, which issued a six-day detention order against them.

A 49-year-old resident of Limassol was arrested yesterday for a flagrant offence to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of illegal possession of property.

Specifically, around 8pm yesterday, information was received by the Police that a theft is being committed at a house in Limassol. Members of the Police immediately went to the scene, where they found the 49-year-old, moving wires. During a subsequent search, a large quantity of cables was found, which the 49-year-old allegedly said belonged to him, but did not give sufficient explanation as to how they came into his possession.

As a result, the 49-year-old was arrested for the offence of unlawful possession of property and detained to facilitate interrogations.
