A minor was found by the Paphos Police driving a vehicle on a road of Agia Marina Chrysochous.

According to the spokesperson of the Pafos Police Authority and Head of the Pafos ICF, Michalis Nicolaou, on 18.5.23 at 13:00 members of the Pafos Traffic Police intercepted a vehicle, driven by a minor, on Agia Marina Chrysochous road.

The minor was driving the vehicle without a driver's license, without insurance and was called to the police station of Polis Chrysochous with his father.

The minor and his father are expected to be summoned again to the Polis Chrysochous Police Station to be charged in writing.

Members of the Police arrested two more people yesterday, in connection with the investigated case of causing a fire, which had occurred last Wednesday, in the area of Tochni, in Larnaka. Another person was arrested in connection with the same case last Wednesday and is in custody.

Specifically, in the context of the investigation of the case by the Zygi Police Station and the Larnaca ICF, evidence emerged against a 37-year-old and a 29-year-old man in relation to the causes of the fire. Judicial arrest warrants were issued against them, under which they were arrested and detained for the purpose of police examinations.

A third suspect, aged 51, was arrested last Wednesday, also under a court warrant and after evidence emerged in relation to the cause of the fire. The 51-year-old was brought yesterday before the Larnaca District Court, which, at the request of the Police, issued a four-day detention order for the purpose of police examinations.

The fire broke out around one o'clock on Wednesday, in an area of the village of Tochni in Larnaka, where it burned a large area of trees and wild vegetation. According to the evidence under investigation, in the area where the fire had occurred, works were in progress for the construction of metal fencing, using power tools.  From the testimonies in the possession of the Police, it is alleged that the fire broke out from the use of power tools and immediately afterwards spread.

The Zygi Police Station in cooperation with the ICF of Larnaka continue the examinations.

Two persons attacked a member of the Police during traffic police checks of the "Z" team of the Limassol Traffic Police. Specifically, a signal was made to the driver of a car in which another person was on board, to stop, without doing so, while in his attempt to escape, he tried with the car to hit the police officer on a motorcycle. After their arrest was achieved, they attacked him. They were both arrested for the offence of assaulting a police officer and resisting their lawful arrest.

The driver of the vehicle underwent a preliminary narcotest test with a positive indication. It was also found that he was driving without a driver's license and without being covered by insurance.

At the same time, in the context of preventing road collisions, combating the phenomenon of nuisance and consolidating the feeling of road safety, motorcyclists of group "Z", carried out between the hours of 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. today, traffic police checks in various areas of Limassol, with emphasis on places where fatal road collisions and nuisance had occurred in the past.

During traffic checks, 12 cars and seven large motorcycles were seized, while a further 41 complaints were made for various traffic offences.

The targeted checks of the traffic police continue daily around the clock, throughout the road network all over Cyprus.

False documents, relating to passports and driving licenses, were found in courier packages that arrived at Larnaka airport.

In a written announcement of the Department of Customs and Excise it is stated that "after routine checks on courier parcels at Larnaka Airport, a Romanian passport and 8 driving licenses with issuing countries Poland, Czech Republic and Greece were found, which at first sight were fake".

Specifically, it is reported that during the physical check on a parcel originating in Nigeria, which was declared to contain dry food, footwear and hair extensions sent and addressed to third-country nationals, 8 driving licenses of other third-country nationals were found, in addition to the declared items, (7 issued by Poland and 1 by the Czech Republic), which were placed in an envelope inside the package.

Also, another parcel originating in Turkey was declared to contain a book sent and addressed to third-country nationals. During the physical check, the parcel was found to contain a notebook with Arabic notes and inside its pages an envelope, which contained a Romanian passport and two driving licenses of Greece, also third-country nationals.

According to the announcement, "all documents, in the context of close cooperation with the Police Authorities and the YKAN, were confiscated and handed over to the competent Department for further investigations and examinations."

Police on Thursday arrested a 26-year-old woman for working illegally at a Paphos hotel.

According to police spokesman Michalis Nicolaou, members of the immigration service went to the hotel to investigate a tip off that a person was working there illegally. The woman was found cleaning rooms.

After establishing her identity, police arrested her and she was taken to the Peyia police station, where her employer was called to report.

The two were accused in writing of illegal work and illegal employment and released pending court summons at a later date.
