About Glen Allison

I'm a nonstop nomadic photographic artist. During the past three decades, I've maintained no permanent residence. I constantly roam the globe seeking visual order that all too often is burdened by urban chaos. At the moment, steam locomotives and weathered, grungy textures fascinate me. Tomorrow I shall awaken to new explorations. Come with me. Allow thrill.

My digital artworks incorporate composited photographs that embrace repeating hierarchical patterns found in the disarrayed environments I frequently encounter around the world. Often I craft images blended with grungy urban textures orchestrated in multi-layered arrangements. Occasionally I introduce bold-colour graphic elements, hand-drawn or not—circles, squares or triangles orderly placed to foster visual balance—sometimes with elements that stimulate subliminal visions of rotational spin.

I hold a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley. During the past three decades I photographed more than a hundred countries. My initial focus was to capture iconic travel photography that is represented by Getty Images through which my photographs have been published in excess of 100,000 times in most of the world’s leading travel publications, including National Geographic and Conde Nast Traveller. Read my wild, vagabond tale in this blog post, Magical Steam Train.”

I’m the original founder of the Stock Artists’s Alliance, a trade association that represented photographers worldwide in an exhaustive effort to challenge big business in their gluttonous pursuits to infringe upon photographer’s intellectual property rights. We demanded fair remuneration. I’m also active in the Soka Gakkai International (SGI), a lay Buddhist organization dedicated to the promotion of global peace, the respect and dignity of all cultures, and the fostering of quality education.

The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) recognized me as one of their selected photographers for the “ASMP Best of 2012.”
