122 NEW CASES AND ONE DEATH, FRIDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 22, 2021 a person has died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 179.

  • 179 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 58 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 9,635 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 122 (positivity rate: 1.27%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 29,758.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

One person who has died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concerns:

  • Male, aged 82, with underlying diseases, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 179, of which:

  • 120 men (67%), and
  • 59 women (33%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 80 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 179 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospital, 58 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 58 patients critical, 32 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 23 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 9,635 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 1,718 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 7,917 using the antigen rapid test, 122 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 37 cases from 307 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 31 cases from 884 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 10 cases from 320 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 44 cases from 7,917 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 187 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 20 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
