GREEK CYPRIOT EXERCISE BETWEEN RHODES AND KASTELORIZOS

A search and rescue exercise following a possible aeronautical accident took place on Wednesday 25 November in the area between Rhodes and Kastelorizos.

For the "Eagle" exercise, a helicopter, a rocket, special forces men and a helicopter with personnel from the Republic of Cyprus were mobilised.

During the exercise, the preparedness of the search and rescue system in Greece's area of responsibility was assessed in accordance with the international conventions of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), national legislation and the orders of OHIM, GEN, GEA and ALS-EL.ACT.

The "Eagle" exercise assessed the cooperation of the search and rescue coordination centres of Greece and Cyprus, the coordination of search and rescue operations and the promotion of flight safety among trainees, in accordance with the provisions of the International Civil Aviation Convention and the Procedures of the International Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue (IAMSAR) manual.
