The Police arrested a 34-year-old man yesterday, as part of an investigation into a case involving an attempted burglary of a building and possession of burglary tools during the night.
Around 7.40 p.m. yesterday, a member of the Police who was off duty, noticed two men who had their faces covered with hats and surgical masks, moving suspiciously and entering an apartment building in Limassol.
When the two men realized the presence of the policeman, they fled, while one of them threw a door handle which they cut off in their attempt to break in.
The policeman stopped one of the two. As it was established, he is a 34-year-old. In his possession, burglary tools were found, as a result of which he was arrested for a flagrante delicto.
The 34-year-old is expected to appear today before the Limassol District Court, for the issuance of a detention order.
The TAE Limassol continues the examinations.

The presence and action of the Police last night was intense, throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols in key points of urban areas, with the aim of preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order and increasing the sense of security of the public.
As a result of the preventive policing operations, 10 persons were arrested, for various offenses including illegal possession of property, burglary, drugs and illegal stay.
During the night, 459 vehicles were stopped for inspection and 593 drivers and passengers were checked. At the same time, 45 inspections of premises were carried out, from which 16 complaints emerged.
During traffic checks carried out, 221 complaints were made about various traffic violations, of which 88 concern speeding. A total of 209 alcohol tests were performed, with 14 positive results, as well as four preliminary drug tests, with three positive results. Also, as part of the police examinations, two vehicles were detained.
Policing operations, for the prevention and suppression of crime, continue every day, with an enhanced police presence, targeted controls and immediate operational action, in order to protect citizens and ensure public order.

The Police arrested two persons, aged 34 and 25, as part of an investigation into a case involving illegal possession of drugs, firearms and explosives. Around 5.20 p.m. yesterday, members of the MMAD during a patrol in Aglantzia, stopped a vehicle that was moving suspiciously for a check.
The driver of the vehicle was a 34-year-old man and the passenger was a 25-year-old, while a number of packages containing cocaine with a gross weight of 20 grams, dry plant matter with a gross weight of five grams and a precision scale were found and confiscated inside the vehicle.
The two persons were arrested for flagrante delicto, while the 25-year-old's home in Nicosia was then searched. During the search, six pistols, six boxes containing a total of 299 bullets, dry plant matter with a gross weight of five grams, as well as 22 packages containing pills were found and confiscated.
The two suspects are expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court today, for the issuance of a detention order. TAE and YKAN Nicosia continue the examinations.
Members of the Anti-Drug Service (YKAN), as part of an information assessment, proceeded yesterday to arrest a 31-year-old man.
His arrest was preceded by a search of his vehicle and residence in the Nicosia District, during which the following were located and confiscated:
- Quantity of dry plant matter with a gross weight of approximately 135 grams
- A transparent film containing six ECSTASY pills and about three grams of cocaine
- Three crushers with traces of cannabis
- A precision scale with traces of cannabis
- An e-cigarette with cannabis
- Amount of money as well as other items
The 31-year-old was initially arrested for flagrante delicto offenses while he was re-arrested today on the basis of a court warrant.
He is expected to appear tomorrow before the Nicosia District Court, for the purpose of issuing his detention.
YKAN (Nicosia Unit) continues the examinations.

On 22/5/2026, officials of the Customs Department at Larnaca Airport, after evaluating information, located a British passenger before his departure for the United Kingdom, with his luggage containing a large amount of cigarettes, which did not bear the marking for the harmful of smoking in the Greek and Turkish languages, nor the safety feature and the unique traceability code, indications that they were duty-free.
Specifically, a total of 85 boxes of 200 cigarettes each and 8 packs of 20 cigarettes each were found in the passenger's luggage. The passenger was arrested for flagrante delicto, while the luggage and its contents were confiscated. Yesterday morning he was taken to the Larnaca District Court, which issued a 3-day detention order to facilitate investigations.
The case is being further investigated by the Larnaca Customs.
