A MEMORANDUM TO THE PRESIDENT FOR 'INACTION' IN ANIMAL WELFARE WAS SUBMITTED BY ANIMAL WELFARE ORGANISATIONS AND PARTIES

A memorandum to the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides, in which the "unjustified inaction of the Government" in matters of animal protection and welfare is denounced, was submitted on Wednesday by the cooperating Party for the Animals of Cyprus and the Green Party of Cyprus.

The memorandum was submitted jointly with the animal welfare organizations Cyprus Society for the Protection of Animals and Green Shield, which speak of serious gaps in the implementation of legislation and state policy regarding animal protection.

As stated in a relevant announcement, the pre-election commitments and especially Chapter 7 on animal welfare, remain unenforceable. "This is not just inconsistency, it is institutional indifference," the Party for the Animals said, adding that it demands immediate concrete action, a timetable for the implementation of commitments and public accountability.

"A country's international image is not judged by titles and presidencies, but by its actions at home. The memorandum must be taken seriously — and now is the time for actions, not any more promises," he says.
