E-KALATHI - APPLE GAVE PERMISSION, REHEARSAL SUCCESSFUL - GREEN LIGHT FOR LIKELY RELEASE NEXT WEEK

Filenews 15 May 2025 - by Angelos Angelodimou

"Clean" was the final check that was carried out yesterday by the competent services and those directly involved, regarding the e-kalathi and therefore it appears that everything is ready for the application to be "aired".

It is most likely that this tool will be given to consumers next week, with any reservation always on the table, as it is known, e-kalathi has received several extensions to date and any provision becomes risky.

As reported by the information of the Liberal, during yesterday's inspection no technical problem arose, with the contractor of the system turning on the green light for the official operation of the application. What he has asked from those responsible is to be given a margin of about three days before the date when the application will be officially released, so that all the technical details are prepared for the system to work without any problems.

As for the issue that existed with the e-kalathi applications for mobile phones, it is recalled that the final approval had been given for the mobile phones with the android operating system and Apple's license for the mobile phones with the ios operating system was pending. Now this pending issue has been settled, since Apple has given its approval after some technical changes have been made, which will not affect the final image that the user will have in front of him.

As far as supermarkets are concerned, a lot of preparation has been made there, so that everything is ready, with their basic requests having been satisfied by the competent Consumer Protection Service.
That is: (a) The system must initially operate in a closed environment, so that any problems can be detected in time, (b) The products that will be included in the e-kalathi must have the same barcode. (c) To issue a decree before the commencement of operation of the e kalathi by the competent minister, as provided for by law.

The point that worries in relation to the supermarkets, however, is that they do not proceed with reductions in the prices of the products that will be included in the e kalathi, but at the same time increase the prices of other products that will not be included in it -yet- in it.

It is reminded that 22 supermarket chains are contracted with the application, with a total of 165 stores, as well as that a total of 478 products will be posted on it, whose prices will be updated only whenever there is a change.

The system will display information both to the contractor operator and to the competent Consumer Service, so that in case an excessively high price is detected, there will be immediate communication with the supermarket, in order to determine whether the issue is technical or of another nature and to be properly managed.
