Multipurpose Centre of Prastio [Avdimou]
Sunday 15 September - 4pm-10pm
Under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment
Halloumi is considered the flag of authentic Cypriot cuisine and the cultural heritage of Cyprus. Its history "travels" to the depths of centuries, counting it among the oldest cheeses in the world.
Halloumi
is not just a product of Cyprus but is part of the cultural heritage of the
place since its preparation is directly linked to the traditional rural life
and social solidarity, which
characterized the villages of Cyprus.
Halloumi
is history, halloumi is culture.
The
picturesque, spotless, and stone-built village of Prastio (Avdimou), honours
every aspect of the history and culture of halloumi, with a purely thematic
festival, which will engage you with interactive activities, and will travel
you gastronomically, historically and spiritually, while 4 experienced
instructors will offer unique workshops for the children.
Apart
from the rich traditional gastronomy and live musical program, the festival
provides the opportunity to visit the nearby chapel of Agios Ioannis Theologos,
where Father Athinodoros will take you on a journey through the history and art
of hagiography.
The
festival has been placed under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture,
Rural Development and Environment, and the gold sponsor is the Deputy Ministry
of Tourism.
It is
organized by the Community Council and all organized groups of the village.
