ORANGE WEATHER WARNING IN FORCE

 in-cyprus 31 January 2024

The orange warning issued by the Cyprus Meteorology Department due to the low-pressure system named “Dawn,” (Avgi) affecting the area until Thursday, remains in effect until 22:00 on Wednesday.

The warning predicts rain and locally strong thunderstorms, mainly affecting the northern half and eastern regions of the island intermittently.

Additionally, hail is possible during thunderstorms.

Rain intensity is expected to range between 55 and 70 millimeters per hour.

Furthermore, in a separate announcement, the Cyprus Meteorology Department reminds all entities and citizens with drainage systems under their control to inspect and clean them in all cases where there is a chance of rain to avoid water accumulation.

“The public is urged to monitor the weather bulletins and warnings issued by the Meteorology Department for their information,” concludes the announcement.

Today, the weather will be mainly cloudy with local showers, isolated thunderstorms, and snowfall in mountainous areas.

Hail is possible during thunderstorms, and snowfall may be temporarily heavy.

Temperatures will reach 13 degrees Celsius inland, around 16 degrees Celsius in the south and east coasts, around 14 degrees Celsius in the west and north coasts, and 2 degrees Celsius in higher mountainous areas.

Frost is expected in mountainous and locally in semi-mountainous areas.
