The Blue Submarine Cable System project concerns an undersea fiber optic communications cable connecting France with Israel and connecting with Italy, Greece and Cyprus. Primetel PLC is the project promoter and operator in Cyprus.
The aim of the project is to provide high-speed internet services and state-of-the-art capacity to internet service providers, carriers, telecommunications providers, content providers, businesses and institutions. The landing point in Cyprus is at Geroskipou Municipal Beach, near Cabana Beach Bar, where there is an existing Primetel shaft and other existing telecommunications infrastructure.
The intention of the Public Presentation that took place yesterday was to provide general information about the project, to mention the main environmental issues arising from it and to give the public the opportunity to submit comments and opinions.
In the context of the evaluation of the Project, a relevant preliminary Environmental Impact Assessment Study (EIA) has also been prepared. As of January 29, 2024, the MEEP is posted on www.alaplanning.com, www.primetel.com.cy, www.geroskipou.org.cy websites, while a printed copy of it will be in the Municipality of Geroskipou. In the same area there is also a suggestion box, where any interested party will be given the right and opportunity to express opinions, suggestions and / or complaints about the proposed Project and the MEEP.
