NEW MINIMUM WAGE IN FORCE FROM 1 JANUARY - AUDITS AND INSPECTIONS BEGIN

An information campaign and targeted controls begin the day after New Year's Day, officers of the Department of Labour Inspection, for the payment of the new increased minimum wage to employees.

Speaking on the philenews podcast, Assoc. Director of the Department of Labour Relations, Andy Apostolou, reiterated that the minimum wage for recruitment is €900, which increases to €1,000 after six months of work. More emphasis will be placed on information in the first two months of 2024, Mr. Apostolou said, adding that, at the same time, targeted checks and inspections will be carried out so that salary correction is made and where some employers must comply.

The legislation, he added, covers both hourly and part-time employees, who are entitled proportionately to the corresponding salary of employment. In addition to controls and inspections, the Department of Labor said Mr. Apostolou will also receive complaints, named or anonymous, through the website.
