PAPHOS COASTAL FRONT HAS CHANGED

 Pafos Live 10 October 2023

Two consecutive projects that have greatly changed the image of the Pafos coastal front were recently completed. This is the redevelopment project in the land area of the port of Kato Pafos and on the western front from the Castle to the boundaries of the municipality of Pafos with the community of Chlorakas.

The cost of the reconstruction of the coastal pedestrian street exceeded €7.5 million and included the completion of the network of pedestrian walkways surrounding the Municipality of Pafos, the protection and promotion of areas exceptional in terms of natural environment, since part of the project has been constructed within the Special Area of Conservation and Special Protection Area of the Natura – 2000 network – Kato Pafos Lighthouse.

The project has also achieved the protection and promotion of cultural elements included in the study area, such as the Medieval Castle, the Pafos Archaeological Park and the Archaeological Site of the Tombs of the Kings, while at the same time it contributes to the improvement of the condition of the existing pedestrian street that starts at the square of the Medieval Castle and reaches the beach of Faros, which is already used by a significant number of tourists/visitors.

At the same time, the project of upgrading urban equipment and infrastructure in the area surrounding the wider port basin at Pafos Harbour, with a total value of €1,747,710.10 including VAT, has been completed.

The project concerned the supply and installation of new urban equipment along the beach, the repair and upgrading of the infrastructure in the area of the Castle and the Port, the maintenance of the "Fishermen's Cafe", the maintenance and restoration of sunshade facades, planting and landscaping in the area.

Both projects were co-funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund 2014-2020 and the Municipality of Pafos.
