A quantity of more than ten kilos of cannabis was located and confiscated by the YKAN, while a 22-year-old man was arrested to facilitate interrogations.
Specifically, around 11.30 a.m. of 7th October 2023, in the context of an information assessment, members of the YKAN spotted a vehicle moving on a road in the Larnaka district. After signaling the driver to stop, he developed speed and in his attempt to escape, he stopped in a field. The driver got out of his car and ran and managed to escape.
During the search of the car, 20 nylon packages containing cannabis with a total gross weight of 10 kg and 341 grams were found and seized.
Police examinations secured testimony that the driver of the vehicle was a 22-year-old resident of the Limassol district. A judicial arrest warrant was issued against him, under which he was arrested yesterday and detained.

The Paphos District Court issued a three-day detention order against a 25-year-old man yesterday for two investigated cases of burglary and theft committed in September to facilitate investigations.
According to the spokesperson of the Paphos Police Authority and Head of the Pafos ICF, Michalis Nicolaou, the 25-year-old was arrested on Thursday in Paphos as a suspect in the case. It was preceded on September 18 by a complaint by a 35-year-old man that on the same day his residence was burglarized and property stolen from it. Also on September 26, a 58-year-old woman reported that during the night of September 25-26, her residence was burglarized and property was stolen.
Examinations conducted by the Pafos Police for the two burglaries secured testimony against the 24-year-old, against whom an arrest warrant was issued.
During his arrest on Friday, he was also found in possession of a gold chain, for which he did not give satisfactory explanations and was arrested for illegal possession of property. Investigations into both cases continue by the Paphos Police.

A woman from Georgia was arrested by the police on suspicion of stealing gold from a jewelry shop in Paphos. The woman visited the jewelry shop and paid with her credit card for the gold.
The owner of the jewelry shop realized, however, when he left the store that the card did not have the required amount of money for payment. It is unknown, however, how the payment was originally made.
The woman was arrested last night at the central police station when she went there to sign for another case pending against her.

A total of 206 complaints for various traffic offenses resulted from traffic police road inspections carried out by members of the Road Accident Prevention Squads (OPOD) Headquarters and Avdimou and members of the Special Motorcycle Squad (EOMO), as well as the local Traffic Police Departments nationwide.
According to the Police, traffic checks were carried out between the hours of 6 am yesterday to 6 am today, as part of the prevention of road traffic collisions.
The majority of complaints received concerned offences which have been proven to be the main causes of serious and fatal road collisions. Of these, 49 complaints were made for exceeding the speed limit, as well as another 10 complaints related to driving under the influence of alcohol. A further 33 complaints also emerged concerning vehicles that were not registered and had a certificate of conformity.
Also, members of the Special Motorcycle Squad carried out traffic checks in the city of Limassol where a total of 43 complaints emerged. Of these, 4 concerned exceeding the speed limit, 5 complaints about invalid safety certificate, 3 complaints about not wearing a protective helmet, 2 complaints about immobilized or deleted vehicle, while another 71 drivers were reported for various other traffic offences.
Targeted traffic police checks continue daily, around the clock, throughout the road network all over Cyprus. The sole objective is to establish proper road awareness by all road users and to prevent fatal and serious road collisions.

The case of the 33-year-old Russian, from Pafos, who was found to have spent the night injured inside the Air Force camp in Troodos, is characterized as strange but at the same time serious.
The 33-year-old was arrested on Saturday morning after being noticed by members of the camp. On Sunday (8/10) he was brought before the Limassol District Court, which ordered his detention for a period of 5 days. The 33-year-old appeared in court without being represented by a lawyer while the offence of entering a restricted area is being investigated against him.
The allegations made by an interrogator are being investigated and it is surprising that he travelled a long distance on foot. At the same time, investigations are being carried out by the National Guard and how the 33-year-old managed to enter the camp through the fence and then sleep in a military vehicle that was unlocked, without anyone noticing him.
According to "F", the 33-year-old, who lives permanently in Cyprus, claimed that in recent days he has been homeless and wandering. As he said, he did not keep money to pay the rent of an apartment he rented in Paphos and as a result, the day before yesterday he handed over the key and departed on foot for Limassol.
Initially, he said that he arrived in an area of Limassol and asked a passing taxi to transport him, but because he had no money, the taxi would not transport him. Subsequently, he arrived on foot in Omodos where he spent the night, while the next day he arrived in the area of Troodos. He also said that he was hit by a vehicle that abandoned him and because of this he lost his travel documents.
He claimed that he was wandering in Troodos where at some point he looked for a place to warm up. On how he got inside the camp, he said he passed under the fence and after spotting the military vehicle, which was unlocked, entered it to sleep.
The driver of the vehicle spotted him on Saturday morning and then the police were informed.

The investigations of the ICF of Limassol and the Germasogeia Police Station are in progress in relation to the serious injury of a foreign person. According to reports, a fierce fight between dozens of foreigners took place in the area of Agios Athanasios on Saturday night (7/10).
According to philenews, last night information was received from a private hospital in Limassol that earlier a 40-year-old man with serious head injuries was transferred by other persons. Members of the Police went to the hospital and the examinations revealed that he was a foreign person from Syria. Further examinations also revealed that there had been a fierce fight between 30 foreigners in the area of Agios Athanasios.
The injured man was reportedly admitted to surgery as he suffered severe head injuries. According to the attending physicians, he suffered a traumatic brain injury and a skull fracture. He is currently hospitalized in the Mediterranean Intensive Care Unit.
From the information collected so far by the authorities, it seems that groups of foreigners from Syria met in the area of Agios Athanasios to resolve their differences.
