EXCEED THE MANDATORY LINE AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND BE FINED €25 TO €300

 Filenews 7 March 2023

From €25 to €300, offenders are required to pay at traffic lights, who stop over or exceed the mandatory line (ALT), as reported on the show AGENDA on ΑCTIVE by the head of Road Safety of the Headquarters, George Milis.

As he explained on the occasion of the operation of the photo-tagging system at two new controlled intersections in Nicosia, at Griva Digeni and Prodromou avenues and at the junction of Limassol Avenue with Armenia Avenue, "where there is an ALT line, the driver must stop before it. If the front wheel crosses the ALT line by 70 cm, then we are faced with the offense of violating a mandatory line and the extrajudicial is €25. If the vehicle crosses the mandatory line 2.5-3 metres and not the rear wheel, then the complaint concerns the violation of a red light and the extrajudicial is €300".

The aim, as Mr. Milis mentioned, "is to change the bad habits in driving and to establish that drivers must stay behind the mandatory line of the ALT. The photo-labelling system must cover all cities so that we have clear data on the drastic reduction of accidents."

At the same time, he noted that as of today there are eight mobile devices, which operate on a pancyprian basis.
