PROBLEMS WITH HUMANITARIAN AID AT LEDRA PALLAS BARICADE - 'LET'S SEND IT FROM GREECE'

 Filenews 10 February 2023

They sent back Greek Cypriots carrying humanitarian aid with bags for Turkey, to the Turkish Cypriot checkpoint at the Ledra Pallas barricade.

The websites Yeni Duzen and Ozgur write that the "policemen" at the Ledra Pallas barricade tell the Greek Cypriots that "the system has fallen" and they cannot get through and sent them back.

Ozgur writes that the president of the Turkish Cypriot guild called the Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, to report the incident to him and ask for help, but the response he got was "Let them send them through Greece. They're not going to go through here."

However, after strong criticism and reactions through the NGOs, it seems that the attitude of the Turkish Cypriot side has changed and as Yeni Duzen writes, Greek Cypriots are now allowed to transport humanitarian aid for Turkey.

The newspaper claims that yesterday the "foreign minister", Tahsin Ertuğruloglu, had referred to the fact that some Greek Cypriots wanted to cross into the occupied territories to give humanitarian aid to Turkey, referring to a "game of the Greek Cypriots". He had added that "the motherland did not accept this game, how will I accept it?".
