Filenews 29 November 2022
Eighty people who were trafficked by e-scooters were reported in the context of the Pancyprian checks carried out by the Police during the week of November 14-20, for the proper driving of personal mobility devices (e-scooters), based on the legislation that recently entered into force and governs the use of such devices.
Specifically:
- 49 persons reported for driving in unauthorised handling areas
- 2 persons reported for driving on an expressway
- Four persons were reported for driving outside the designated trafficking lane
- 2 persons were denounced after their e-scooters did not carry running lights
- 23 people were denounced for not wearing a protective helmet
As the Police states in an announcement, the aim of the checks was the compliance of the operators of electric scooters with the provisions of the new legislation, but also to raise their awareness on road safety issues when using these devices.
According to the announcement of the force, in parallel with the traffic checks, the Police continues to enlighten the public about the provisions of the new legislation on electric scooters and their proper use on the road.
Among the main provisions of the Legislation that came into force, are the obligation of operators to wear a protective helmet at all times and during the night phosphorous insignia. At the same time, it is determined that the movement of such devices can only take place on a road with a maximum speed limit of 30km, on a bicycle path, on a bicycle lane or on an extension of a bicycle path that bears a special sign. On motorways, expressways, squares or pedestrian streets (unless otherwise specified by the municipality concerned), their use is prohibited.
Always according to the Legislation, only persons over the age of 14 have the right to use e-scooters.
