The worst month is January, in terms of coronavirus deaths in Cyprus, as a negative record was recorded with 96 deaths, according to the national report, released by the Ministry of Health. Specifically, the total number of deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19 reached 104, of which 96 had an underlying cause of COVID-19. The increase recorded compared to December 2021 is 136%.
According to the National Report:
• As of February 2, 2022, 841 deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19 have been reported to the Health Monitoring Unit of the Ministry of Health. 62.7% are men (n=527 deaths) and the remaining 37.3% concern women (n=314 deaths).
• Of the 841 deaths, 738 (88%) had an underlying cause of COVID-19.
• 62.5% of the total number of deaths with the underlying cause of COVID-19, concerns men (n=461 deaths) and the remaining 37.5% concerns women (n=277 deaths).
• 50% of the total number of deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19 concern people aged 69-85 years, with a median age of death of 78 years and an average age of 76.2 years.
• The month of January 2022, recorded a negative record of deaths. The total number of deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19 reached 104, of which 96 had an underlying cause of COVID-19. The increase recorded compared to December 2021 is 136%.
• 69% of the total number of deaths in January 2022 are without a history of vaccination, 2% were fully vaccinated, 9% were fully vaccinated and with the booster dose and finally 20% were partially vaccinated.
• It is noteworthy that 50% of the total number of deaths for the month of January 2022 concerns people aged 70 years and over without a history of vaccination.
• The total number of deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in the month of January 2022 (n=104, 12%) exceeded August 2021 (n=95, 11.3%). It is followed by December 2020 (n=90, 10.7%), January 2021 (n=86, 10.2%), April 2021 with a percentage of 8% (n=66), May 2021 with a percentage of 7% (n=59) and July with a percentage of 6% (n=49).
• The highest percentage of deaths of people positive to the COVID-19 disease, with the underlying cause of death being COVID-19, concerns people with permanent residence in the Limassol District (n=259, 35.1%). They are followed by Nicosia District (n=227, 30.8%), Larnaca District (n=134, 18.2%), Paphos District (n=67, 9.1%), Famagusta District (n=41, 5.6%), 7 deaths have an Undetermined Permanent Residence District (0.9%) and 3 deaths concern residents abroad (0.4%). • In the year 2021, Limassol has the highest mortality rate per 100000 population (70.4 deaths per 100000 population). It is followed by Famagusta with 67.4 deaths, Larnaca with 62.3 deaths, Paphos with 50.1 deaths and finally Nicosia with 44.3 deaths per 100000 population.
