3,145 APPLICATIONS TO DATE FOR WITHDRAWAL OF POLLUTING VEHICLES

The application process for the first phase of the Plan for the Withdrawal of Polluting Old Vehicles was completed with great interest yesterday, as informed by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works.

Specifically, from 6 to 20 December, a total of 3,145 applications were submitted by the beneficiaries for the withdrawal of polluting vehicles. More specifically, the following were submitted:

  • 2,973 applications for withdrawal and replacement with a new private vehicle with an emission mass of ≤50 gr/km - CO2,
  • 16 applications for withdrawal and replacement with a new taxi vehicle with an emission mass of ≤50 gr/km - CO2,
  • 25 applications for withdrawal and replacement with a new wheelchair with an emission mass of ≤50 gr/km - CO2,
  • 63 applications for withdrawal and replacement with a new vehicle of a large family with an emission mass of ≤50 gr/km - CO2,
  • 51 applications for the withdrawal and purchase of a new electric bicycle (assisted pedalling), and
  • 17 applications for the withdrawal of an old vehicle in exchange for the provision of free tickets for use on regular bus services.

The amounts that will be allocated for the purpose of scrapping an old vehicle and replacing it with a new vehicle range from €7,500 to €12,000.

The examination of applications will begin immediately and beneficiaries who meet the criteria will be informed of the pre-approval of their application. Then, and if a pre-approval is given, the beneficiary has two months to provide proof of order for the new vehicle and a time limit of 12 months for its registration. The sponsorship is given upon registration of the vehicle, within 12 months from the pre-approval.

Finally, it is recalled that from yesterday, December 21, 2021, and until January 3, 2022, the application process for the first phase of the Electric Vehicle Sponsorship Schemes is in place. Interested parties can submit their application online through the website www.ev.gov.cy. Applications will be examined on a first-come, first-served basis.
