346 NEW CASES, WEDNESDAY

No deaths from coronavirus and 346 new cases were announced Wednesday by the Ministry of Health. The positivity rate stands at 0.64%. A total of 81 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 37 are in serious condition. 60.5% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

According to the announcement of the Ministry of Health "3 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit".

A total of 53,832 tests were performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the total number of cases has been 128,770.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 588, of which:

- 376 men (64%), and

- 212 women (36%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 81 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 37 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 37 patients who are in serious condition, 15 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 20 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 53,832 diagnoses performed, 4,757 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 49,075 by the antigen rapid test method, 346 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 74 cases from 799 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 2 cases from 1,666 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 77 cases from 1,828 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 7 cases from 247 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 112 cases from 24,271 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 74 cases from 24,804 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 214 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 3 samples taken in the context of checks in closed structures.
